Rebecca: "Hey, Mary, it's blue!"
Mary: "Congratulations! You'd be glad to know that it's Pink here!"
Rebecca: "Duh? I am telling you about Breast-Cancer..."
Mary: "Oh, and I was telling you about my baby girl!"
If you’ve spent any time checking out status updates of your friends over last two days and noticed a slew of single word colour statuses from your female friends and feel a little out of the loop, you’re not alone.
In the last few days, the Social Networking web site Facebook was swept away by a momentary fad that saw women, including those reasonably educated, updating their Facebook status with the color of their Bra, with a belief that this would spread Breast Cancer Awareness! For me, it all started when I saw "White" written on a friend's Facebook status and I thought to myself, "Well, it must be some international anti-racist campaign" and ignored it. A few more minutes into clicking a few more links and voila, I saw "Purple" and then I thought to myself, "well, well... this is something else".
A little bit of googling and I realized that this was a breast-cancer awareness campaign! By the time I finished reading a small blog about what was happening, this was spreading like a H1N1 (don't ask me what H1N1 is, as I might have to beat a few Eggs to give you a subtle hint there) in the background.
As I kept browsing pages, I saw all kinds of colours around - Ocean Blue, Charcoal Gray, Lavendar, Yellow and Purple to name a few. I even noticed that some men were clicking the "Like" button on the Facebook-status of their married and engaged female friends, leaving it much to the wild and jealous imagination of their husbands and boyfriends.
A little bit of more search and I came across this anonymous guy on a blog, who admitted that after hearing about this color flu, he logged into his Facebook to check what colours were his female friends updating and there he was! Much to his agony, at the top of his feeds, there was a status-update from his Mother that said, "I just took it off! By the way, it was Lavender".
I learned from a friend that she received an email from a friend that talked about secretly mentioning only the colour of their Bra on their Facebook Status in order to confuse boys and to have some fun. She added that since no woman would reveal the secret, men won't know. Later, I heard someone saying, "Freedom OF movement"..... Victoria is not a "Secret" anymore. Talk about women keeping secrets!
What were they thinking? A female friend told me, "Well, it was a girls' thing and I didn't know that men knew about it! It's so embarrassing now!"
Having seen all this, I decided to have some fun and posted on my status that if Breast-cancer awareness can be spread by disclosing the colours of Bra, then men and women should start disclosing the colour of their underwear to spread awareness about Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome (now don't ask me what it is)... To my amazement, I realized within a minute that a response to this campaign was already blossomming in the background.
"Frenchie!!" was the udpate of a friend of mine on his Facebook page that, much to their enjoyment, caught the attention of so many men, who started posting their comments.
"Yeh Andar kee baat hai!" came next, followed by "Roopa Ke Underwear," and then it saw no end... Not to forget, "VIP", "Boxer" and "Tommy" were match winners. Then finally, someone added, "Aerated, what's in a name?"
I must say that I saw a barrage of colourful status updates over the past day. There were plenty of hillarious and humorous conversations, which I participated in. Many of these conversations still refuse to die. It would be worth mentioning that as a result of this participation, I got almost 65 status-update-emails from Facebook.
Well, to make this blog more useful, I would like to actually do something to spread Breast-Cancer awareness. If you are interested, click and read this link, which would give you some really useful information about Breast-Cancer.

You can not only read information but also participate in forums and ask questions! And yes, you won't find any colours being associated with Breast Cancer.
The day finally ended with a friendly debate on my brother's Facebook page and before I went to bed, I updated "Brown"! I leave it to your imagination to decide whether I mean color as an Indian or something else...
Cheers and have a good day!
